The Client : Kalimera Beach Hotel is a boutique property in Placencia, Belize — beautifully designed with hand-applied chukum plaster walls that give each room a distinctive, natural warmth. It's the kind of place that feels better in person than any photograph had ever managed to show. That was the problem.

The Challenge : Chukum is notoriously difficult to photograph. The natural plaster consistently read as yellowish and shiny in images — never matching the warm, textured, living quality guests experience when they walk in. Previous photography had failed to capture it accurately, and owner Kristy knew that until the images matched reality, the hotel's most distinctive feature was actually working against them in their marketing.

She booked Braata specifically to solve it.

The Approach: Before a single shot was taken, we did a full walkthrough of the property — not with a camera, but with fresh eyes. The diagnosis was immediate: the warm-toned bulbs throughout the rooms were the root of the problem, casting the chukum in exactly the yellow light that had plagued every previous shoot.

The first decision was simple but transformative — we replaced every warm bulb with daylight bulbs throughout the spaces we were shooting. Then we layered controlled flash with the natural light already present in each room, carefully balancing both sources to replicate exactly what the naked eye sees when standing in the space.

The result was images that finally felt true. The chukum looked the way it actually looks — textured, natural, and quietly stunning.

We also updated Kalimera's aerial library and film clip assets, giving Kristy a complete refreshed content suite across both photo and film.

The Result: For the first time, Kalimera's photography matched the experience of being there. Their most unique architectural feature — the hand-applied chukum — finally had images worthy of it. Kristy now has a visual library that sells the hotel the way it deserves to be sold.

"Braata fully embraced the challenge and approached it with creativity, care, and a clear understanding of design and space. They spent the time to get to know our property and vision, and it shows in every single shot. If you're looking for a photography team that understands aesthetics, hospitality, and storytelling — we can't recommend Braata enough."
